Anhinga Taking in the Last Rays

Picture
Viera Wetlands, FL

4/10/2011 7:42:00 PM

Camera:           Nikon D90
Lens:                 Nikon 70-300mm AF-S 4.5-5.6
Exposure:         165mm f/5.6 1/4000s ISO 800

My wife and I were just about to leave the wetlands.  All the light was in front and I didn't think there were anymore pictures at hand.  As I looked across the pond I saw the anhinga perched.   Then I positioned the sun behind the anhinga and started to experiement with the camera settings.  With a bit of luck, I was able to capture this image.

Egret Resting

Exposure:         230mm f/5.6 1/1500s ISO 800

Late in the day as usual and headed on my way out of the Wetlands.   The Egret was resting while the days activities were quieting down.  The lighting provided a bright outline and the water cooperated with a nice reflection.

Red-winged Blackbird

Lens:                 Nikon 70-300mm AF-S 4.5-5.6
Exposure:         300mm f/8 1/350s ISO 400

These birds don't sit still for long.  Their song is beautiful.  It is a challenge to pull out detail of their black feathers while retaining details of their red "shoulder" feathers and the background.

Royal Terns in the Wind

Picture
Sebastian Inlet Park, FL

1/30/2010 3:58:00 PM

Lens:                 Nikon 70-300mm AF-S 4.5-5.6
Exposure:         300mm f/5.6 1/500s ISO 360

A chilly windy day down at Sebastian Inlet.   This is on the west side where there is a small lagoon and plenty of sand.  There was a large flock of royal terns and black skimmers.   These terns seem to have individual personalities based on their postures and wind blown feathers.
