Dragonfly in the Green

Picture
Viera Wetlands, FL

Camera:            Nikon D90
Lens:                 Nikon 70-300mm AF-S 4.5-5.6
Exposure:         300mm f/8 1/500s ISO 400

This picture comes from one of my favorite little stops on my regular tour of the Wetlands.   I settled in for an hour or so to just watch the dragonflies carryon their business.   The vegetation provides a nice contrast and background color for this orange dragonfly.

Camera:            Nikon D90
Lens:                 Nikon 70-300mm AF-S 4.5-5.6
Exposure:         300mm f/8 1/1500s ISO 400

I enjoy trying to capture insects in flight.   Got lucky on this one.  I had the camera on a tripod, kept an eye on the flower that was attracting some attention then fired away when this bee came visiting.

Always trying to catch my prey.  This Fritillary settled for a moment with flowers melding in the background.

Dragonfly on a Stick

Camera:            Nikon D90
Lens:                 Nikon 70-300mm AF-S 4.5-5.6
Exposure:         300mm f/8 1/500s ISO 200

It doesn't take much for a Dragonfly perch.   I find it interesting that they often only use four of their six legs when they perch.   The other two legs can be seen folded just behind their head.

Camera:            Nikon D90
Lens:                 Nikon 70-300mm AF-S 4.5-5.6

Late in the day and the sun is almost gone.   I came across the monarch flittering about during a walk.   The monarch settled and I was able to capture this image.

Camera:            Nikon D90
Lens:                 Nikon 70-300mm AF-S 4.5-5.6
Exposure:         300mm f/5.6 1/750s ISO 400

This came from one of my sit-down sessions at the wetlands.   Spread a little blanket, settle in, and wait for the dragonflies to perch.     This was close to sundown so I was able to capture some of the late day colors in the background vegetation.
